ANDREW KAY
sculptor
In 1962 I won a scholarship to attend the Bolton College of Arts, later I studied graphic design and worked in advertising in Manchester for three years. After travelling through India and Asia, I returned to the UK to begin studying fine art at Preston Polytechnic, eventually going on to study fine art at Manchester Polytechnic, where I graduated with a Master of Arts degree in fine art.
After further travels throughout India and Asia I arrived in Australia with my wife Yvonne in 1979. Since arriving in Australia my artwork has been centred on the creation of sculpture inspired by the natural environment. The abundance of forms, colour and wildlife that abound in the Australian landscape, provide me with an unending source of inspiration for my artwork.
I have created public artwork for Government, councils and private organisations. I currently operate a bronze casting foundry at my studio in Roleystone, where I cast my own bronze sculpture. I have recently been exploring the possibility of incorporating fused glass that I have created in my studio into my sculpture.
